The story of Sophie, her mummy and a mysterious Tiger is a masterpiece among English fables. The original book is written and illustrated by Judith Kerr. Flying Banana Theatre action the text gently and wisely, filling the show with ingenious music, songs, and catchy lyrics.
The story teaches audiences to feel courageous even in the face of a hungry beast who eats us out of house and home. Even dangerous, hard hearted Tigers can be tamed by the warm hug of an innocent child.
The director Martin Cooke revealed: “The Tiger Who Came to Tea was the first ever show of Flying Banana Theatre. That piece was played because my wife and I had children of our own and wanted to teach them English through art. Eleven years has passed... And we are still putting smiles on faces and planting beautiful words in impressionable minds. The Tiger was always a favourite! Even though our own children have grown up somewhat, we are set to revive the show to share with a new generation of other people’s children. What a gift! Don't you think?”
The Tiger Who Came to Tea may be considered the best and brightest of shows in the repertoire and tradition of our Theatre. The spectacle is illustrated live by world class sand artist Liliya Chistina who is a great friend of Flying Banana. Her sumptuous skills bring joy to all who witness them. She paints stories to life and delights audiences.
The show is accompanied by specially composed live music performed by talented artists who love playing for children.
